Young people invited to share their voices on Ecology and Climate

Posted on: January 9, 2025 11:44 AM

Young people with a passion for theology are being invited to submit articles, poetry, video or art contributions expressing their views on the Ecology and Climate, in the next publishing cycle from Young Anglican Theology (YAT)

Working in partnership with the Anglican Communion Youth Network (ACYN), Young Anglican Theology is a gathering of young people (aged 18-40) across the Anglican Communion that seek to connect, encourage, and empower young Anglicans with a passion for theology.

The group are inviting Anglican youth to share submissions on a range of topics including Ecclesiology and Climate Change; the Effects of Climate Change on the Church; the Fifth Mark of Mission (which is to Treasure the Earth) and Liturgy and Creation.

Following the recent COP16 (on biodiversity) and COP29 (on climate change), this is a timely opportunity for young Anglicans to share their voices on major issues impacting the world today.

Contributions will be published on the Young Anglican Theology website along with a short video interview introducing the young people behind the theology, and talking about our hopes for the future of Anglican theology. Contributors will receive support from the YAT publishing team to develop their piece for publication.

The project aims to provide a platform for anyone with a passion for engaging with theology in creative ways and emphasises that contributors do not need formal theological training.

Speaking about the aims of the project, Fr Thomas Sharp, the Project Coordinator of the Young Anglican Theology Project said: “We want to connect and encourage young people from around the Anglican Communion to speak with a powerful theological voice, and to contribute to raising up the next generation of Anglican Theologians. Whatever sort of Anglican you are, and whatever way you express your theology, your voice matters.”

Reginald Pepsival Robertson, the Global Co-Convener and Africa 1 Regional Co-Chair of the ACYN said: “Many young Anglicans around the world are living in contexts directly impacted by the challenges of Climate Crisis and Identity. It’s vital that the Church hears and listen the voices of young people across the Communion on matters of ecology and the climate and learn from their rich experiences.”
